At the Faire

Friday, October 30th, 2009

UN_rs-1The ladies of Urban Nest are off to the faire this morning, the Wisteria Faire.  I should say two of the three ladies are – I’m at home with a little bug.  I was bummed to miss the first night of this shopping event because I wasn’t feeling well, but Juliet and Stephanie sent me some pictures so I could check it out.

faire collageWe haven’t talked much about our businesses, but they are actually what brought the three of us together.  Stephanie is the creative force and graphic designer behind Ink and Paper, a source for fresh, modern paper products from gift wrap to stationery.

ink and paper collageI love Ink and Paper’s gift wrap, particularly the packaging – the tubes come in french baguette bags.  And I have both given and received this little cutie on a package.

Juliet and I own and operate Lorcom Lane Design, a small home decor business.  We mostly do custom work for clients – from selecting and sourcing unique fabrics to sewing custom pillows, window treatments, bedding and table linens.  We’ve been talking about starting a business together since we were roommates on Lorcom Lane almost 10 years ago and both left our corporate jobs in the last two years to pursue the dream of doing something we love.

lorcom lane collageIf you’re in Richmond today, the healthy members of Urban Nest would love to see you at the Wisteria Faire.  The girls will be there until 4:00.

Have a great weekend and happy Halloween!

I Smell a Rat {in Three Acts}

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

un_jbStanding in line at Ben Franklin the other day I was taunted by a shelf full of wiley, smirking rats that initially made me feel a little uneasy. But since I seem to have a little Halloween spirit in me this year, the wheels started turning and before I finished checking out I snagged one off the shelf and decided to have a little fun…

collage_rat

Let me set the stage, briefly — my husband and I recently had a little rodent of our own lurking beneath the kitchen sink. I’ll spare you (and my reputation!) the details! And now, this little rat from the craft store was about to make its debut. I planted him firmly on top of the recycling bin under the sink with just enough of his tail peeking out from behind the door to creep myself out!

{Act I} When my husband got home that night, I was sure he would spot it right away. When he didn’t, I took matters into my own hands and let out an unpredictable screech from the kitchen. He came running and I pointed feverishly — from my cowering position behind the porch door — to the lurking rat tail between the cabinet doors.

collage_trick2

Enter The Sucker.

Him: “Oh, #$%*! What is that?”

Me: “It’s a RAT!”

Him: “A rat? No way. Is this a joke?”

Me: “No, it’s not a joke,” tears of fear welling in my eyes. (Who knew?!)

Him: “It’s not moving. I think it’s playing possum. Don’t take your eyes off it. I’ll be right back. This better not be a joke…”

Re-enter The Sucker, with loaded BB gun — don’t ask!

Him: “Alright, I need you to reach over and open the cabinet door very quietly. Then get back. I’m gonna take him out. Seriously, this better not be a joke,” he says with the BB gun poised for disaster.

Me: (This is hilarious. Why didn’t I set up a video camera? Oh no, he’s going to blow a hole in the garbage disposal. What if he hits the fire extinguisher? This is so funny, I’m literally crying! Wait, this is a terrible idea!) “DON’T SHOOT! IT’S A JOKE!”

Hysterical laughter (me) and threats of paybacks (him) ensue…

Is there anything better than a well-timed, well-executed, and harmless prank? The laughter alone will cleanse your soul.

collage_box

{Act II} I couldn’t let the rat get away without another giggle and I sure didn’t want it in my house any more. So I packaged him up in the perfect-sized box and shipped him off to my parents for another little prank. They were so empathetic to our real rodent chase over the summer, I had to share my devious joy. No note. No return address. Just a hairy rat wrapped in black tissue paper.

Mean, I know. But, we all got a good laugh out of it.

{Act III} Now he lurks from atop an old costume witch hat that my mother hangs from their front door every year at Halloween.

Trick or treat…

Any harmless pranks up your sleeve this year? Do tell!

Gettin' Cozy

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

un_srYesterday turned into a cool, rainy day here in Richmond. The kind of day you wish you could curl up on your sofa with a good book…or better yet, Netflix. So after receiving an email with the cozy Warmest Wishes card from Linda & Harriet, I started daydreaming of some comfy fall finds.

un_cozy

With a baby belly changing my wardrobe, I’m trying to limit my shopping to accessories that I can have in future years, instead of maternity pieces I’ll wear less. These are a few items I’m into right now…it may be a little early, but I love get snuggled up in this cool weather!

1. Winter Mittens Imprintables from Ink & Paper. I’m thinking these may be fun for a winter cookie exchange invite…yummy!
2. The classic Bailey Glove from Ugg. Lined with sheepskin and adorned with a sweet button.
3. Anthropologie’s Lily Pond Scarf. Cotton & wool with crocheted flowers.
4. Warmest Wishes card from Linda & Harriet. So cozy!
5. Mauve Rose Cowl from Etsy seller Annie’s Wearable Art. 6. One Two Three Button Boots available in grey and purple from Sundance.

Enjoy!

Just Treats

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

un_jbI treated myself to this little pouch and key fob from Gim Carry on Etsy recently. Every once in a while, something just calls out to me from my Etsy feed and I can’t resist. These little treats hailed all the way from Japan and arrived over the weekend.

collage_gimcarry

{images: Gim Carry}

Both pieces are impeccably crafted out of soft leather, perfect stitches and sweet details. I ordered the orange key fob, which is a beautiful shade of pumpkin spice that feeds my current color craving.

The little pouch is the perfect size for my iPod Shuffle, headphones and gym card, all of which I’m usually scrambling for from the depths of my bag on my way into the gym.

I know, it’s probably a little cute for the gym, but so what. It makes me smile. Isn’t that what treats are for, anyway?

wf09_180x180By the way, if you’re a Richmond reader, treat yourself to something fun at Wisteria Faire this Thursday and Friday! There will be all sorts of upscale handmade, homemade and consignment items for sale in a lovely setting.

Hope to see you there!

Fabric Find

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

UN_rs-1It’s been a while since I’ve paged through a copy of Better Homes and Garden, but I was at my husband’s parent’s house this weekend, and my mother-in-law had the November issue.  I’m so glad that I took a look because next month’s issue features the beautiful home of fabric designer Bonnee Sharp.

{images from Studio Bon}

{images from Studio Bon}

Bonnee is the artist behind Studio Bon Textiles and her current collection is available through Schumacher.  These are my favorites – although it was very hard to narrow it down to these four because I could picture fun ways to use pretty much any of them!

I love the clean, graphic patterns and colors of her fabrics and want to find a way to use some in my home.  Have you come across any new design finds that you’d like in your home?

One Hitch

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

UN_rs-1Ok, so I forgot one thing when I boldly titled Monday’s post “Without a hitch“.  There was actually one hitch caused by a pregnancy side effect some people call “pregnancy brain”.  Has anyone heard of this or experienced it themselves?  It’s another one of the fun symptoms of pregnancy caused by hormones, and it results in absentmindedness in even the most organized and with-it ladies (which I am not).  For example, a few days ago I was running errands with Violet, and I got off on the wrong exit of the interstate on our way home.  This was a very routine trip, and even Violet chimed in from the back seat saying “Mommy, this isn’t the right way”.  She was right, and I had to get back on the interstate and continue on to the exit I normally take dozens of times in a week.

Anyway, back to Violet’s party.  I made her this Oliver + S dress for the big day.

{image on the right from Oliver + S)

{image on the right from Oliver + S)

My mom made Violet another Oliver + S dress for the first day of school, so I knew what size to make.  After a full day of sewing, I tried the dress on Violet, and it was huge.  I realized that I had a brain lapse and cut out the wrong size.  I  didn’t figure it out until it was too late, and there wasn’t enough time to tailor it down to the right size.  So I had the perfect dress that matched all of the fabric I used for the party, but she had to wear something we already had.  Oh well, I’m hoping it will make the perfect Easter dress this spring when I know I won’t have time to be sewing with a new baby.

While I’m talking about sewing for little girls, I do have to say that I love Oliver + S patterns.  The clothes are adorable, and the patterns come with paper dolls for your little ones to play with.  If I get time, I’d like to make these cute numbers for Violet.

{images from Oliver and S}

{images from Oliver and S}

I’m hoping that I don’t have too many more “pregnancy brain” incidents, but I’m sure there will be a couple more funny stories.  Do share your absentminded moments – maybe that will help me feel less like I’m losing my mind!

On that note, have a great weekend!

Getting Cozy: Fall Decorating Ideas

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

un_jbNow that we’re well into October, I’m trying to figure out exactly how I’m going to soften up my decor for the cold temperatures and crisp breezes. I’ve been digging through my stash of seasonal decor, scouring the Internet and experimenting with a few new things, but I haven’t brought it all together yet.

Here are some of the things I’m inspired by right now:

oncewed_diycenterpiece

I love the rustic textures and colors of natural elements, like this DIY tablescape by OnceWed.com. I would mix something like this with jewel-tone velvet linens and sterling silver flatware.

collage_cozy

I adore this navy blue wallpaper by Ferm Living. Dark blue is so often used to in beach and nautical decor that are reminiscent of summer, but I really love a rich, dark blue in the fall and winter. To me it represents the bare winter sky. I also think it coordinates beautifully with copper and orange tones like you find in bittersweet.

How about the simplicity of this bowl of yarn? Don’t you love it? It’s such a simple detail that creates so much coziness. Not to mention the endless colors you can choose from.

collage_minimalist

These minimalist, monochromatic details are a perfect combination of modern design and natural elements. I just love the pale green tones of this mantle-scape (is that real design term!). The shift from traditional orange pumpkins gives it just a little edginess that really appeals to me.

I also really like how the crisp lines and fresh whites in the image on the right are punctuated by the shape and texture of of the pheasant feathers. In fact, I’ve already started working with some brown and gold feathers on my dining room table. I even threw down a natural canvas tablecloth to build my minimalist palette and I like where it’s going…

But here’s what I need to know: can you have a tall centerpiece AND a chandelier? I love the look of dramatic centerpieces with lots of height to them, but I always wonder if it’s competing with my chandelier. Is it better to adorn the chandelier and keep the scale low and simple on the table, or does it even matter?

Fall Goodies

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

un_srCool fall weather always gets me craving sweet Halloween treats and warm comfort foods. I want to put on a pot of chili and curl up on my couch on Sunday afternoons!

Below are some tasty goodies to try out this season. Check out what they call ‘Tricked-Out Caramel Apples!’ They look so gorgeous and delicious…there are even more ideas here.

un_treat3

I have the biggest sweet tooth, so this recipe caught my eye immediately. It’s for Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie with Chocolate-Almond Bark and Toffee Sauce from Bon Appetit. This might even be a great alternative to classic pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.

un_treat4

un_treat2

Above is a Roasted Pear-Butternut Soup with Crumbled Stilton. Try substituting out different cheeses…blue chees, gota, or gorgonzola.

And lastly is a Pumpkin Ravioli with Gorgonzola Sauce recipe. Last year at my family’s barn party, my uncle made pumpkin ravioli that was so scrumptious…I will have to try this out this fall.

Somebody Is Watching You

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

un_jbI don’t typically get into Halloween decorations or crafts around our house — we don’t have kids and we don’t even get that many trick-or-treaters since we live on a busy street. But my nephew’s birthday is in October and he loves Halloween. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to be a little creative!

This year I wrapped one of his presents in snakeskin wrapping paper and the other other in glossy black paper. I then glued some googley eyes from the craft store in pairs to the front of the black package. It made for a fun and spooky presentation.

As I was working with all the googley eyes spread out on my black dining room table, I had this idea for setting an October table:

collage_watchingyou

I just sprinkled a pile of eyeballs around each place setting and separated them into pairs. So simple and fun.

With a few votives low to the table and the overhead lights dimmed, you might just think somebody is watching you…

Without a hitch

Monday, October 19th, 2009

UN_rs-1Despite some lousy, cold weather here in Richmond, the balloon birthday party was a hit!  Violet and her little friends had a great time, and everyone raved about the giant balloons.  They made quite a statement in our dining room.

p_balloons
It was fun to stray from my usually simple and clean style and add whimsical touches to our decor.  I made a table runner with more of those fabric circles ironed onto felt – I think I easily cut out over 100 circles for this event, including the invitations and favor bags!

p_ table collage

Speaking of the favor bags, they looked so cool lined up on the radiator next to the presents.

p_favors
Last but not least, even the birthday cake had more circles to carry on the balloon party theme.  In this case they were Necco wafers – finally no fabric to cut out!

p_cake collage

I was going for something fluffy and cloud-like, and I used Martha Stewart’s 7-minute frosting recipe to make kiss-shaped peaks.  The frosting was delicious and so easy to work with!  I wish I had remembered to take a picture once I cut into the cake so you could see the layers inside.  I wanted a tall cake, so I used 3 layers – one pink sandwiched between 2 chocolate layers.  The pink layer was just a white cake tinted with pink food coloring.  In between the layers, I used a fudgy chocolate frosting flavored with raspberry.  Not to toot my own horn, but the cake turned out pretty tasty.

At the end of the party, each little guest took home one of the giant balloons.  They barely fit through the front door, but everyone managed to get them in their cars.  Now, it’s time to relax for a day or 2!

Do Me a Favor

Friday, October 16th, 2009

UN_rs-1

I have been working away feverishly on the party favors for Violet’s party tomorrow.  I’m trying to avoid the dreaded combination of excessive amounts of sugar and noise makers.  Here’s what I came up with:

favor bag collageI made these bags out of some really inexpensive felt and grosgrain ribbon and then fused on more of the fabric circles from the invitations.  I have a few color schemes, and hopefully some are appropriate for the boys.

favor bag
I stitched a tic-tac-toe board on the back of the bags and made X’s (or squares) and O’s out of more of the fabric.  For the game pieces, I fused the fabric to some of the felt before cutting out the shapes.  It gives them more weight, and they stick nicely to the bag.

I’m filling the bags with a few other little treats – candy necklaces (these are Violet’s favorites, and I figure one candy item isn’t too bad), playdoh, glitter pens, and stickers.  Each of our small guests will also get to take home one gaint 36″ balloon filled with helium.  I hope the balloons will fit in their cars!

Party Time!

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

UN_rs-1Tomorrow is a big day at our house – Violet is turning 4!  It really is hard to believe that she has gotten so big, so quickly – the time really has flown.  In the past we have celebrated Violet’s birthday with a very small family gathering and a special homemade birthday cake.  But this year, Violet really wants a birthday party with some of her friends.  I have to say that the thought of lots of 4-year-olds running around the house had me nervous, so we are still keeping it small with just a few little family friends.  I love the idea of a small party – not only is it more manageable for my daughter, but it’s allowing me to add some fun touches that would be too much if it were a big party.  The party is inspired by balloons, particularly the giant round balloons that are all the rage these days.

{image from Martha Stewart}

{image from Martha Stewart}

Even the invitations follow the balloon theme:

invitesThese were so fun and simple to make.  I found several fat quarters of fabric in pink, purple, and yellow – some of Violet’s favorite colors of course.  I fused Heat and Bond to the back of the fabric and then used different sized spools of thread to trace and cut out circles.  Then I fused the fabric directly to the invitations I printed up and to the envelopes.  Voila, cute and easy invites!

Stay tuned for more of the balloon birthday details!

You Are Special Today

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

ws_waechterbachtun_jbI mentioned on Monday a sweet tradition we had growing up to celebrate special days. Birthdays, graduations and standout achievements were served on the classic “You Are Special Today” red plate. It was such a simple gesture that has made a lasting impression.

I’m thinking it’s a tradition I’d like start in my own home. For me, there’s something memorable about red, but I might choose a solid red plate instead, like these, also by Waechtersbach.

collage_waechtersbach

{red plate images, here and above: Sur la Table}

But couldn’t you choose any uniquely patterned, boldly colored or delicately detailed plate and make it your very own Special Day, I Love You, or You Rock plate?

These melamine plates by Jackie Shapiro are about as festive as they come!

collage_jackieshapiro

{images: Jackie Shapiro for French Bull}

The white on white modern take on the classic You Are Special Today is gorgeous. Unfortunately, it’s also sold out. And I have always loved Jill Rosenwald pottery. This muted palette and sweet design looks like the top of a cupcake bursting with candles to me.

collage_etsy

{images: left, Jill Rosenwald on Etsy; right, Paloma’s Nest on Etsy}

Finally, I still adore Rae Dunn’s pottery. This “cake” plate on the left would be large enough to serve the cake, but would also make a delightfully oversized dinner or dessert plate at the table! The custom plate would be fun to play around with wording and numbers to make it timeless.

collage_raedunn

{images: Rae Dunn on Etsy}

How about a cheeky “18″ or “21″ in the center — isn’t that a safe age to aspire to, no matter how old you are? I wonder if she’d use letters in the middle and spell out “YOU” in red. I would make the border text say “You Are Special” along the top and “Everyday” at the bottom.

Do you celebrate any birthday traditions or celebration gestures in your home? Do tell…

PS: My nephew, Marty, is special today. And everyday. Happy Birthday, Marty-man!

Birthday Calendar

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

un_srThe photo below is terrible. I took it on my 5 year old, aging, digital camera and I’m really realizing it may be time for an upgrade.

In any event, I wanted to share with you this calendar I made last year as holiday gifts for my family. I created the design with the 2009 months on the left and bright graphics on the right. Each month has a circle around the days that people in my family have a birthday. This is the Nelson-Richman side, so it’s not too complicated…I didn’t even list names.

About a month before the holidays I sent my design off to Spoonflower. When the printed fabric arrived back to me, I cut to size, finished off the edges, and ended up with calendars about the size of a dishtowel.

{ family birthday fabric calendar }

{ family birthday fabric calendar }

I was happy with how the project turned out, so I’m thinking this year I’ll make some modifications and keep it generic (not specific to one year). It’s also fun to see what my family members have done with each of theirs…my grandma sewed small rings on hers and it hangs on a door, Carolyn has hers on the fridge with magnets, and I think some are using as dishtowels.

If you’re thinking ahead to the holidays now, let us know if you’re interested in a calendar for your family. And don’t worry, Rachel and Juliet will be helping with the finishing so you won’t have to experience my novice sewing skills!

Cake Stands by Whitney Smith Pottery

Monday, October 12th, 2009

un_jbWe’re celebrating lots of birthdays in our families this month, which got me thinking about cake, my love of cake stands, and a childhood tradition I would like to start in my own home.

So, I don’t know when it started, but I have such a fondness for pretty little cake stands. I have several at home — from classic crystal to modern ceramic. When I discovered these from Whitney Smith Pottery, I decided to share them with you in hopes that alone would satisfy my desire to buy one immediately for myself!

collage_whitneysmith

{images: Whitney Smith Pottery}

The top right image is a full-sized cake stand; the other images are for individiual cupcakes. I adore the cloched one — what a delightful presentation that would make at the dinner table!

Serving dessert from one of these endearing little stands got me thinking about something we did growing up to celebrate special days…

I’ll tell you all about it later this week!

Gentle Breezes & Sweet Dreams

Friday, October 9th, 2009

un_jbThere is something so irreverent and playful about bright colors, bold shapes and plush textures hanging from above — perfect for developing and entertaining an infant’s senses.

mobile_meAs an adult, I am equally enamored by this three-dimensional art form. A friend gave me this sweet mobile years ago from a street market in San Francisco. It hangs in my workroom and is so joyful and inspirational when it flutters as I breeze past it.

There are endless options for mobiles available — from paper cut out DIY to major art installations. Here are just a few that I am especially drawn to this week in celebration of new babies and their sophisticated parents (and decorators!).

collage_petit collage2

One of these lasercut bamboo mobiles by Petit Collage might be fun with some of Stephanie’s nursery mood boards — especially the owl motif, don’t you think?

collage_frazier&wing

And I’m loving the organic shapes and rustic birch in these from Frazier  & Wing, especially the yellows and greys for Rachel’s little guy.

porcelein butterflies

This sweet collection of porcelein butterflies by A Silver Garden on Etsy is intended to withstand an outdoor breeze. What a sweet lullaby — hanging near an open window — for a resting baby.

collage_whimsical

And of course we need some bright colors and whimsical creatures like these above by Atelier LZC and Frazier & Wing

But it’s really hard not to consider making your very own, as Rachel suggested yesterday and considering the infinite array of materials that could be used. Etsy is full of terrific art supplies and I  think these vintage papers from Love TSP Vintage would be a great place to start. I would love to combine these greytone letters and numbers with something in bold red or rich pink.

And as long as we’re talking DIY, you must take a look at this incredible Ikea upgrade from Gather and Nest!

Here’s to gentle breezes and sweet dreams…

Boyish Charms

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

UN_rs-1We got the news exactly 1 month ago today that our little bundle is a boy. I didn’t realize until the sonogram tech told us that we were having a son just how convinced I was that we were having another girl.  It’s been a welcome surprise – my husband and I have always said it would be perfect to have a girl and a boy.  So the wheels have been in motion since the big day in September, and I have been searching for some adorable, boyish accessories for the nursery.  Here are my favorites:

{images from jonathan adler, dwell studio, hanging mobile gallery, little sapling toys, and marimeko}

{images from jonathan adler, dwell studio, hanging mobile gallery, little sapling toys, and marimekko}

I’m sticking with the grey-blue, yellow and oatmeal color scheme based on the fabrics I’ve found so far, and I’m drawn to jungle animals (elephants in particular).  I can’t get enough of Jonathan Adler these days, and his miniature animal figurines are high on my list.  I’d love to use the yellow elephant bookshelf from Dwell Studio on a side table, but it doesn’t seem to be available right now, darn!  I think this mobile from hanging mobile gallery is the perfect inspiration for a little nursery DIY project.  Don’t you think I could make something similar with a wooden dowel, card stock, and fishing line?

I’ve spent a good bit of time scouring etsy for baby toys and hit the jackpot when I came across little sapling toys. The teethers are too cute and I love the mix of woods in the stacking toy.  Last, but not least, I’m trying to decide if our little guy’s playroom needs a fun wallpaper like Violet’s.  I’ve had these grey dots from Marimekko bookmarked for a little while now, and they would go so well with the fabrics I’ve picked.  But, I’m just not sure – maybe I should try something different like chalkboard paint?  Any other ideas?

The Nursery #2

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

un_srI am now 16 weeks into my pregnancy with a due date in late March. This is our first, so I feel like there’s so much to do and think about! I’ve been up to my elbows in baby books and blogs soaking up as much information as I can. Of course, the nursery has been in the back of my mind the whole time. We’ll be doing some rearranging…the guest room will become the nursery and the office will become the guest room. The walls for the nursery are already a pale yellow/green called Plum Passion, but I need help from there!

un_fabric

The above fabrics are some I’m drawn to. We are not finding out the sex, so I’d like to keep it pretty neutral and clean. The bottom and left fabrics are hand block printed from Home Sweet. I like the organic quality and imperfect printing. The top is a design from Amy Butler’s new Love collection and the right is from Joel Dewberry.

My problem is I don’t know a good place to look for bedding. Any suggestions? These are a few I’ve found that I like elements of, but I haven’t found “the one!”

un_bedding

The cute dots are by Skip*Hop and are available at Baby Earth. The funky animals and larger circles are from Target and come in a large 10 piece set…but do I need all of those things?? And the adorable owls and trees are another brilliant design from Dwell Studio. As you can see, not all of these items go together and I’m having a heard time narrowing the ideas down. What’s your go-to place for nursery products? I’ve got about 5 months to go…

The Nursery

Monday, October 5th, 2009

UN_rs-1The cat is out of the bag – a baby will be joining my nest in 2010!  I’m 23 weeks into my pregnancy and am finally feeling a little like my old self again.  My pregnancy with Violet was not easy and this one has not been much easier so far.  In both of my pregnancies, I’ve been very nauseated during the first trimester.  After almost ending up in the hospital when I was pregnant with Violet because I was loosing so much weight, my doctor and I were more prepared this time.  So, I’ve been on a regimen that has at least allowed me to keep food down this time around, but still didn’t help with the nausea.  I’m happy to say that now that I’m well into my second trimester, the nausea has finally subsided, and I have been making hay while the sun is shining.  From finishing off our living room to updating Violet’s room, the nesting instinct is in full swing.  And now that everyone knows about our little addition, I can share some details about the nursery!

Violet’s room isn’t the only room that’s under construction right now.  What was once our guest room, is well on it’s way to becoming the nursery.  Just like in Violet’s room, we are having the radiator removed, the door and transom are being replaced, and it’s own tiny closet is becoming a play room.  Now on to the fun stuff, in my opinion, the color scheme and fabric.

nursery fabric

I’m planning to paint the walls a neutral and warm off-white.  Then I’ll bring in touches of grey-blue, yellow, and oatmeal.  The colors for the nursery probably give away my other piece of news – it’s a boy!  My husband and I are thrilled that a little boy will be joining our family at the end of January.  Violet, on the other hand, is still warming up to the idea of a brother.  She had her heart set on a little sister, but she’s coming around.  I’ll keep you posted as I continue nesting!
