{Green} Tea

Since it’s 70 degrees here today and the gardens are popping with signs of spring, I’m starting to get excited about putting some things in the my herb pots. And, since Stephanie brought up Martha yesterday, the May issue of Martha Stewart Living features an article about homemade herbal infusions — using a French Press and fresh herbs. I think this year I’ll plant some herbs that will make nice French Press tea, like lavender, lemon verbena and thyme.

In the meantime, I got some lavender and mint from the farmer’s market to try my hand at Martha’s infusions. It will take a little experimenting to get the proportions right, but this is going to be a really nice garden treat.

You can read the full feature photo: Starbuckshere, but it’s as simple as snipping some fresh greens, steeping in boiling water, pressing and pouring.

I think I’ll make a pot now…

By the way, I can’t wait for these to go on sale (because they always do!).

I tried it again last night with fewer leaves — probably eight or nine mint leaves and about a 1″ cut of lavender thistles. I’m using a 3-cup French press. It was perfect! I even steeped a second round using the same leaves and the flavors were still very full. It was a very pale yellow green and really, so delicious. I’m hooked!
