Design Star, Season 5

Have you caught any episodes of this season’s HGTV Design Star? I have watched a handful and seen a few interesting ideas to keep in mind when designing in the future. From this past Sunday, I liked how Emily & Michael painted the ceiling in their dining room space. I thought it added the right amount of color without darkening the room…it was unexpected and fun. You can catch a glimpse in this image.

One of my favorite elements in a room so far was the fireman silhouette painting that was created for the firehouse lounge room in NYC. I’m trying to think of a way to incorporate the same idea into a painting for my own home. I don’t have any connection to firemen, so I need some ideas of other interesting shapes that would relate to my family…hmmm…I might have to keep thinking on that!

Other recent challenges included designing and styling a kitchen for a Sears Catalog photo shoot and this was my pick of the two.

They are down to the final three designers, so tune in this weekend to see who will be left standing. Right now Casey seems to be the favorite among the judges and I agree. What do you think? Who should get their own show? You?

I LOVED that Dining room as well. Emily is by far my favorite and I may be a little biased since she is also from Portland…but I think as a whole my design aesthetic is very much the same based on our region…
I can’t wait for the final episode!

I have to say…I have been dissapointed in the show this season. I am not a fan of so many group tasks and would prefer to see more individual challenges so we can really get a good taste of their capabilities and design flair. The recent Sears kitchen show was so dull – neither one was interestering or up to date in my book. It would also be great to see some of their past work.
